Whole-school conker tournament
Celebrate the start of autumn with this fun, seasonal activity
As the days shorten and the temperature begins to fall at the start of the autumn term, the plants and trees around us produce an abundance of fruits and seeds. At this time of harvest, irresistibly shiny conkers fall from horse chestnut trees, waiting to be discovered and gathered up.
Wherever there are conkers to be found, there is a great opportunity to bring to life the principle of the Cycle. A nature walk to collect conkers, or a display of conkers children have found and brought in to school, are great starting points for a discussion about the cycle of the seasons and the life cycles of our native trees. And an annual conker tournament is a great way to celebrate this seasonal learning as a whole school!
